Each section opens with a poem that relates to each character being explored. The series begins with John Rodman, a "keeper of the dead," who formerly served in the Civil War on the Union side. Another short story, "Sister St. Luke" is set at Pelican Island, which is located between Melbourne and Vero Beach. The other individuals explored thereafter are wholly their own and, though their tales may intersect at times, they are most assuredly the focus in each section.

It is hard to identify specific locations in this story, but due to her time living here and intimacy with the city, Miss Woolson has created a fictionalized version, as confirmed by a reference to the Minorcan descendants.</dcterms:abstract>

Fear and unease fill St. Augustine as people adapt to the changes brought by the Emancipation Proclamation and now the arrival of prisoners from the west. While the story revolves around Nan, who teaches school to underpriviledged children, the townsfolk range from progressive-minded to members of the Klan. Along with her, two other unlikely heroes rise up and work to bring an end to the violence.

Other notable local locations visited include "The Senator" which was already 100+ years old when Pedro Menendez arrived, the Plaza de la Constitucion, St. Francis Street, Hospital Street, St. George Street, the Old King's Highway, Tolomato Street, the St. Augustine Hotel, the old jailhouse, Anastasia Island, and Hospital Creek.

List of references for writing this book located on pages 338-339.</dcterms:abstract>

<dcterms:abstract>Bailey Hamilton's world is turned upside down when a viral video of her attacking a Santa impersonator gets seen across the nation. She flees her home in Boston and ends up in the last place she expected, her hometown of St. Augustine, FL with her dysfunctional family over Christmas, which is a pit of bad memories and distasteful associations. But Bailey rekindles a romance with an old flame, and as she reunites with her family, she quickly remembers why she had tried to stay away from the family's celebration of "Peacemas" for so long. And yet, as she spends more time at home and has flashbacks to Christmas's past, she begins growing closer to the people she has avoided for four years, and comes to learn that maybe people can change for the better and deserve second chances.

Local locations visited or mentioned in the text include the Castillo de San Marcos, the Old City Gates, the Bridge of Lions, Anastasia Island, St. George Street, St. George's Tavern, Florida Cracker Cafe, A1A Ale Works, and Flagler Hospital.</dcterms:abstract>
