This is the story of teenagers who grow up, Clay Hammond, and his friend Osceola (spelled Asseola in the book) and follows their adventures and misadventures until Osceola is imprisoned in St. Augustine awaiting to be sent to Charleston where he dies in 1838 in the midst of the 2nd Seminole War (1835-1842).
Osceola was imprisoned in the Castillo de San Marcos

Other historical personages included are (President) Andrew Jackson, Chief McIntoch, Major Charles Wilhelm Bulow, General Joseph Hernandez, Wildcat, and others.
