Dublin Core

Abstract

This graphic-historical novel was produced jointly by the Ayuntamiento de Aviles and the City of St. Augustine (sister cities) in advance of St. Augustine's 450th anniversary. Told in both Spanish and English, it recounts the life of Pedro Menendez from birth until death.

Important inclusions are the founding of St. Augustine, Menendez's march through the hurricane to attack Fort Caroline, the massacre of French Protestants (Huguenots) at Matanzas Inlet, and his exploration of Georgia and South Carolina and negotiations with the different tribes, which paved the way for the extensive Catholic Mission system based out of St. Augustine in coming centuries.
