Chuck: A Story of the Florida Pinelands

Dublin Core

Abstract

This novel follows Chuck, a boy who is struggling with the stiffness and pain caused by polio. He turns to nature to aid in his recovery - both physical and mental. For his fourteenth birthday, his family drives to St. Augustine from their home in the country, where he fishes for mullets alongside his Pa. Owing to his love for the natural world, and as a way to pay nature back for helping him when he was sick, Chuck decides he will dedicate himself to a career path that may help to pay back the debt he owes his animal friends.

Local locations visited or mentioned include, but are not limited to the Bridge of Lions, the Alligator Farm, and Bird Island Point (on Anastasia Island).
