There Were Two Pirates: A Comedy of Division
Dublin Core
Abstract
Although the famous pirate Jose Gasparilla's (1756-1828) exploits were most prominently performed upon Florida's West Coast, it appears he did seek to retire from piracy in St. Augustine. Cabell's novel chronicles his exploits and in the last part is dedicated to the ideation of Gasparilla's retirement in the Ancient City.
Local locations visited or mentioned in the text include the King Street, St. George Street, the Plaza de la Constitucion, the Old City Gates, the Cathedral Basilica, the Castillo de San Marcos, and the cemetery for the Shrine of Nuestra Senora de la Leche y Buen Parto at Nombre de Dios.
