<dcterms:abstract>**Warning: Some of the language or characterizations in this book are the product of the time when this book was written, and are no longer considered acceptable.**

In this heavily fictionalized account of the life of Osceola, the narration is predominately from his point-of-view. The novel follows the course of Osceola's life up to the point of his ignominious capture at Fort Peyton (southeast of St. Augustine), imprisonment at Fort Marion, and death in Charleston. The two teenage boys who befriend Osceola and witness many of the events of his life are brothers, Arthur and Herbert Wilson. They meet when Arthur saves Osceola from General Thompson while trying to find Herbert, who was captured by a Seminole band.

Other historical personages included are: Micanopy, Jumper, Wild Cat, General Jessup, future presidents, Andrew Jackson and Zachary Taylor, and more.

The other identifiable local location is the St. Johns River.</dcterms:abstract>
