In this collection of short stories, Theodore Pratt shares a variety of perspectives on life in contemporary and historical Florida. From interactions with nature to traversing cityscapes, Pratt shows the sometimes obscured beauty and unique spirit of the Sunshine State.
"Seminole Attack" is the only story in this collection that takes place in St. Augustine.
The notable local location visited is the Old City Gates.
"In 1840, during the Seminole War in Florida, a theatrical troupe was attacked by the Indians just outside of St. Augustine; that incident, treated fictionally, is the basis of this story." -a brief foreword at the beginning of the short story.
There is a historical marker near where this incident took place. The site is now within the St. Augustine city limits.
