Abstract

**Warning: Some readers may find certain scenes in this book disturbing.**

This multi-generational tale of the Florida Cracker family, the Beckham's from the late-18th century into the mid-19th century, tells the tale of a hardworking but settled life on a Florida homestead called, Cracker Landing. The story settles in around the adversity of new environments and the oncoming Civil War, as the family and their neighbors, such as the Mickler's, face their fair share of tragedy and strife.

Several important Floridians are included as characters: Senator David Yulee, Brigadier General John Finnegan, Captain J.J. Dickinson, Delores "Lola" Sanchez, and John Westcott.

Local locations visited or mentioned in the text include the Intracoastal Waterway, the St. Augustine Fish Camp (not the restaurant chain in St. Augustine and Jacksonville), the Tolomato River, the St. Johns River, and Fort Marion (the Castillo de San Marcos).
